Make sure to carefully read the Advantage II for Dogs product guide before purchasing and applying this product on your pet.

Bayer Advantage® II provides dual protection against fleas and lice. It kills 98% to 100% of fleas on a dog within 24 hours of treatment. Fleas, eggs, and larvae also die when they come into contact with dead skin from an animal treated with Advantage® II.

What is Advantage® II for Dogs?

  • A monthly topical flea treatment that works on contact, without the need for fleas to bite.
  • Eliminates fleas (at all life stages) and lice, and helps protect against flea allergy dermatitis (FAD).
  • Remains effective after bathing and swimming*.
  • Available in four different formats for puppies and dogs.
  • Convenient and easy to apply monthly to prevent fleas.
  • Kills 98% to 100% of fleas infesting an animal within 12 hours of the first application and kills new fleas within 8 hours.
  • Limit baths to one per treatment period and use a non-medicated shampoo for dogs.

*Flea shampoos, medicated shampoos, shampoos designed for humans, and dish detergents are not recommended.

How does it work?

Once applied, Advantage® II is not absorbed through the skin. It spreads in a thin layer and binds to the sebum of the animal's skin. Upon contact with the treated skin and coat, fleas and lice become paralyzed and die.

Advantage® II not only kills adult fleas on contact but also, thanks to pyriproxyfen (an insect growth regulator) it contains, prevents flea eggs and larvae from developing into the next stage and effectively kills them. Pyriproxyfen is distributed throughout the home on hair and dead skin shed by the dog.

How to apply it to your dog

Advantage® II comes in a pre-measured applicator tube tailored to your dog's weight. It spreads easily on the skin to ensure flea protection across the entire body on contact.

Ingredients: imidacloprid, pyriproxyfen
GUARANTEED COMPOSITION: Imidacloprid 9.1% and pyriproxyfen 0.46%

Dogs 7 weeks or older weighing more than: Apply the entire contents of the tube evenly at six to eight spots along the top of the back, from the shoulders to the base of the tail. Monthly reapplication is necessary for recurring infestations or if preventative flea control is desired. If retreatment becomes necessary before 4 weeks, a 7-day interval is required before the next application.

Why choose Advantage® II?

Advantage® II is applied topically (on the skin) and kills fleas on contact, so they do not need to bite to be killed. With oral medications, fleas must bite to be killed.

How often should I use Advantage® II?

Advantage® II should be applied once a month and can be used year-round to prevent flea infestations.

My pet lives indoors only. Should I still use Advantage® II?

Yes. Humans and other animals can unknowingly bring fleas into the home. Immature fleas can remain dormant until conditions are favorable for them to develop into adults, at which point they infest pets. This is why it is important to also treat pets that live exclusively indoors.

I see fleas on only one of my pets. Can I treat just that pet?

No. All cats and dogs in the home should be treated, as the infested pet is likely to spread fleas to other animals in the same environment.

At what age can I start using Advantage® II on my cat or dog?

Advantage® II is approved for use on dogs and puppies 7 weeks and older, as well as cats and kittens 8 weeks and older.

Important facts about lice:

  • Advantage® II also kills lice and prevents further infestations in dogs.
  • One of the most common signs of lice infestation is excessive scratching.
  • If you think your dog has lice, consult your veterinarian.
